ANSWERS

How do I get help if I have problems with my keyboard?

This FAQ page and our Troubleshooting page address the most common issues associated with our keyboards. Please see if the problem you are experiencing is addressed on one of these pages.

If you are not able to find a solution to your problem here, please contact the reseller that you purchased your keyboard from and they should be able to assist you in finding a solution.

How do I connect my keyboard?

To connect your new keyboard, shut down and turn off your computer.  Unplug your old keyboard and plug in your new keyboard into the same port.  Please note: if the new keyboard has a USB connection it is best to plug this into a USB port on the back side of the computer. However, if no USB port is available a PS2 adaptor can be used (this is provided with some keyboards), simply attach the adaptor to the black USB cable and plug into your computer’s PS2 port.

What kind of connector do I need for my keyboard?

Connectors- PS2 & USBTo determine what type of connector (adaptor) is required, simply follow the cord from the existing keyboard to your computer.  Unplug the cord and match it to the picture to identify which one you will need.  The USB adaptor is black and rectangular; the PS2 is purple and rounder.

What do "hot" keys do and where are they located?

The "hot" keys are a set of keys that allow a one touch shortcut to perform predefined functions such as access to multimedia and internet functions. The Keys-U-See® keyboard comes with 12 “hot” keys located at the very top of the keyboard (you will find information for their usage included in the keyboard instructions).

Are Keys-U-See® keyboards Macintosh compatible?

Our Keys-U-See® keyboards are designed for use with Windows PC computer systems. However, they will work with Macintosh (Mac) computers using OS 9 or later but due to differences in the operating systems (OS) some functions may not work or may not work as expected on Mac computers.

Most keyboards designed for use with Mac computers have a USB port for the mouse. The Keys-U-See® keyboard does not have any USB ports, so you will need to find another source for plugging your mouse into your computer.

As when using any PC keyboard with a Mac, you will find that the command and option keys are reversed (The “Command” Key is mapped to the “Windows” Key and the “Option” Key is mapped to the “Alt” Key). With OS 10.4 or later this can be corrected by changing the settings for these keys in the “Keyboard & Mouse” options located in the “System Preferences". For OS 9 to OS 10.3, you will need to find a third party software solution to remap these keys.

The media  and “sleep” keys on the Keys-U-See keyboard will work with OS 10.4 and later; the other “hot keys” do not work with the Mac OS. With OS 9 to OS 10.3 none of the "hot keys" will work.

 Are Keys-U-See® keyboards compatible with Windows® 7?

Our Keys-U-See® large print keyboards are designed to function with Windows® 7 operating systems.

NOTE: There is a known issue with the Email "Hot Key" due to the fact that  Windows® 7 installs with no email client by default. You will need to install an email client to send and receive email. The recommendation from Microsoft is to go to http://download.live.com and download Windows Live Mail. After you have installed an email client and set it up as a Default Program the Email "hot key" on your keyboard will work.

Do your keyboards work with all computer systems?

Our Keys-U-See large print keyboards and foreign language keyboards are designed to function with the following Windows operating systems; Windows® 7, Vista™, XP, 2000, ME, and 98 on computers supplying 5 Volts current to the USB or PS2 connection.

NOTE: Some Dell computers do not provide enough voltage from the USB ports to power some USB devices (Dell Latitude and Inspiron PC are known to have this issue).

When attempting to use a non-Dell keyboard, such as our Keys-U-See keyboards, various communication errors may occur, including "device initialization" and "device not found" error messages. This is due to the fact that most keyboards are designed to operate using 5 volts and therefore are not receiving enough power to operate properly.

Dell recommends purchasing a powered USB hub to provide the USB devices with enough power to operate correctly.

Will the foreign language keyboard translate the language?

No. Our foreign language keyboards are simply a tool that allows you to see the location of the language characters on the keyboard when the operating system is set to the language you are using.

How do I access the third or forth character that is printed on some foreign language keyboards?

Some foreign language keyboards may have three (3) or (4) characters printed on one (1) key. In order to access these commands simply press the right Alt or "AltGr" key (key to the right of the space bar) and the key that has the third command printed on it and the Alt and Shift key for the fourth letter.

How do I use the accent marks on my foreign language keyboard?

Accent marks are used for several foreign languages to actuate the letter with the proper accent hit the accent key and the corresponding letter at the same time.

How do I apply labels to my keyboard?

Make sure your keys are clean and dry (using a standard alcohol solution is recommended). To avoid having finger marks on the labels we recommend using tweezers to remove the labels from the backing and align on the keycap. Once in position press firmly with your thumb and hold for 10 seconds to set adhesive properly.
